Publisher's Statement

Welcome to the premiere blog of geecheemag (pronounced geechie, alias gullah) "The Magazine for the In-Crowd". In-crowd, by our definition, refers to a new breed of cognizant adults and are hereby referred to as "peeps".

Isn't it funny that the more things change the more they stay the same. I read an article that was published posthumously and written by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I compared the issues of Dr. King's days with those of today and found that we are still dealing with the same issues. African-Americans are still fighting for justice and the cities are faced with the same problems: schools, transportation, water supply, traffic and crime. Not to mention the new problems that we currently face with Wall Street that has led to the collapse of the banking system and has caused a trickle down effect affecting retirement accounts, the housing market, employment, etc. The list goes on and on.

I was amazed at how Dr. King was able to look so far ahead in the future and see the issues that we would be facing. He talked about the Negro vote becoming the decisive vote in national elections, the election of Negro mayors in major cities, the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and America.s foreign policy, just to name a few.

Our mission will be to examine these major issues and report our findings to you through feature articles and stories so that we can examine our progress (or lack thereof) since Dr. Kings death in 1968. STAY TUNED...
